Alharbi, Mahmood Appear To Clinch Primary For Hamtramck Mayor
The two are expected to advance to the mayoral race in November.

HAMTRAMCK — Adam Alharbi and Muhith Mahmood lead the primary race for the next mayor of Hamtramck with 100 percent of precincts reporting, according to unofficial vote totals, and are expected to advance to the general election in November.
Alharbi appears to have the lead with 54 percent of the vote, and Mahmood behind him with 29 percent of the vote, according to unofficial vote totals.
Four candidates were in the running to be the next mayor of Hamtramck in Tuesday's primary elections.

The seat became vacant after Mayor Amer Ghalib was tapped by President Donald Trump to serve as the U.S. ambassador to Kuwait.
The top two candidates advance to the Nov. 4 general election. The winner in that election will serve a four-year term.

Alharbi is a community activist and Ghalib's former campaign manager, according to the Detroit News. Mahmood, who has dodged rumors that he lives in Troy, rather than Hamtramck, told the outlet the election results show that residents believe him, adding, "People believe in me. They came out and supported me strongly."
