Inkster Mother Accused In Toddler's Death: Prosecutor
The child died from multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma, according to prosecutors.
DETROIT, MI — A 26-year-old Inkster woman has been accused in the death of her toddler son, according to prosecutors.
Atiya Nina Muhammed is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder, first-degree child abuse and torture, according to prosecutors. She was arraigned this week in 34th District Court, prosecutors said. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 20, prosecutors said.
According to prosecutors, Muhammed is accused in the death of her 3-year-old son, Zion Reid.

On May 6, Inkster police and medics were dispatched to a residence in the 26000 block of Lehigh in Inkster following the report of a child being found dead in the home, prosecutors said.
When first responders arrived, they were met by concerned relatives who went to the home to check on the mother and child, prosecutors said. Once inside, police found the child dead in a back bedroom and in a state of decomposition, prosecutors said.

The child was transported to the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office where it was determined he died from multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma injuries, according to prosecutors.
Muhammed was not at home and her location was unknown when the child was discovered, prosecutors said. The Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team assisted the Inkster Police Department in locating the defendant Muhammed, and she was arrested on May 6, prosecutors said.
