DETROIT — One of the world's most popular afrobeats festivals is coming to Detroit for the first time this summer.

Afro Nation, a live music festival that celebrates genres from across the African diaspora, will make its debut in Detroit from Aug. 19-20 at Bedrock’s Douglass site in downtown. The festival will showcase afrobeats, dancehall, reggae, hip-hop, R&B, amapiano, and other Afro-Caribbean and African American styles.

The internationally recognized festival has successfully performed festivals in Portugal, Ghana and Puerto Rico, and is preparing for its first live U.S. festival in Miami this spring. Detroit will be its second U.S. festival.

"When considering which U.S. cities would be right for our Afro Nation festival, Detroit was a clear choice," CEO of Event Horizon Natasha Manley said. "The musical legacy, culture, people and community of Detroit connects to why we started Afro Nation: to celebrate Black music and culture."

There are no tickets or an artist lineup yet but anyone interested in going to the festival can sign up to Afro Nation Detroit's newsletter to stay up to date on headliners and ticket prices.
