Report: GOP Lawmakers Sue Whitmer Over Emergency Powers

Republican legislators held a news conference Wednesday morning inside the state capitol to announce the lawsuit.

MICHIGAN — Republicans on Wednesday unveiled a lawsuit filed against Gov. Gretchen Whitmer challenging her use of emergency powers in combating the new coronavirus, according to news reports.

The Detroit News reported that Republican legislators held a news conference Wednesday morning inside the state capitol to announce the lawsuit.

State legislators last week announced they would consider legal action against the governor and voted to approve such a move in chambers. The move came after rejecting an extension on a state emergency declaration allowing her to continue extending a statewide stay-home order put in place due to the coronavirus.
