Suspect In 4 Wayne County Murders Turns Himself In

Police said the man was on the run in the Bay City area, where he turned himself into authorities.

WAYNE COUNTY, MI — The man police said they believe killed four people in Sumpter Township before fleeing is in police custody, the Bay County Sheriff's Office said.

Police said they were searching for 37-year-old Raymond Lee Bailey in connection with a quadruple homicide in the 24000 block of Martinsville in Sumpter Township. Sumpter Township police officers had responded to the scene Saturday and found two men and two women dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Detectives said they identified Bailey, the ex-boyfriend of one of the women found at the scene, as a suspect and learned that he had fled north, possibly heading to the Upper Peninsula. A short time later, detectives said they were made aware that he had allegedly confessed to the killings to several people via telephone and texts.

Detectives said they were able to begin tracking him as he fled north and located his vehicle abandoned near Bay City.

Bailey was later taken into custody by the Bay County Sheriff's Office, the agency said on social media. The sheriff's office did not release details surrounding the arrest, but the Sumpter Township Police Department said Bailey had turned himself in.
