Victim In Nursing Home Assault Dies: Report

The man had been depressed and wasn't eating properly since the May 15 attack, according to reports.

DETROIT, MI — The 75-year-old victim of an assault that prosecutors said took place in a Detroit nursing home and was recorded has died, according to reports.

Norman Bledsoe had been depressed and was not eating since the assault, which took place May 15 at Westwood Nursing Center in the city, The Detroit News reported. Bledsoe's nephew told The News that Bledsoe died Monday

Jaden T. Hayden, 20, is charged with two counts of assault to do great bodily harm less than murder, larceny in a building and two counts of stealing a financial transaction device, prosecutors said. Prosecutors accused him of also stealing credit cards belonging to Bledsoe.

Hayden's case is currently awaiting the results of a competency evacuation to see if he's competent to stand trial, The News reported.

Hayden was in a room with Bledsoe when he set up his cell phone in the room to record while he severely attacked Bledsoe by repeatedly punching him in the head, according to prosecutors.

Nursing home staff heard the commotion and came to Bledsoe's aid, prosecutors said. Bledsoe was bleeding from the sides of his heard, prosecutors said. Hayden told staff Bledsoe had fallen from his bed, prosecutors said.

Hayden posted videos on social media after the attack, and also stole Bledsoe's credit cards, according to prosecutors. The videos were brought to the attention of the Ann Arbor Police Department who provided them to the Detroit Police Department, which led to Hayden's arrest, prosecutors said.
