The video of an Eastern Market businessman upset over parking went viral and was used as evidence by police.

DETROIT, MI — A Detroit businessman is in legal trouble after spitting on a man in a video that went viral. Robert Stanzler, 50, owner of Detroit Mercantile Co., was reportedly upset about attendees at a business event in Eastern Market for parking on his property, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Stanzler made an obscene gesture toward a security guard and spat in his face. The security guard, 29-year-old Ibrahim Faison, captured video of the incident and posted it July 17. The video was shared hundreds of times and was also used by police in their investigation, authorities said.

Stanzler was arraigned Tuesday morning in the 36th District Court and given a $5,000 conditional bond. He will appear for a pre-trial on the matter Aug. 2.
