DETROIT — A woman was shot and injured while driving along Interstate 94 in Detroit early Thursday morning, according to police.

The shooting happened at 1:40 a.m. Thursday in the westbound lanes on Interstate 94 near Mt. Elliott Street, according to police.

Officers found the woman's car with multiple bullet holes in it, and they also found shell casings on the freeway, according to police.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where her condition was not immediately known, according to police.

Officers reached out to a family member, who then picked up and took the children, according to police.

The freeway was shut down for an investigation, but has since reopened, according to police.

Police do not know why the woman was shot at and do not have any information on the suspected shooter or a suspected vehicle.
