As the controversial Right to Work legislation becomes law in Michigan, the Western Washtenaw Democrats will present a panel of esteemed speakers to discuss what the consequences of the law will be, what is being done in
reaction to the law, and what concerned citizens of Michigan can do to overturn it.
This event will take place on March 7, beginning at 7 p.m., at the IBEW Hall at 7920 Jackson Road, in Scio Township.
Panelists will include State Sen. Gretchen Whitmer, Karla Swift, president of Michigan AFL-CIO, David Hecker, president of the Michigan American Federation of Teachers, and others.
Roy Schmidt, chairman of the Western Washtenaw Democrats, said he expects a large turnout.
“We hope to provide a forum for an intelligent, reasoned, and relevant discussion of the Michigan version of the right to work law that was passed in December 2012 with no committee discussion and no public participation, by a lame-duck legislature and our governor," he said.
