Washtenaw County remains at a high level of COVID-19 transmission. Everyone should:

  • Wear a well-fitting face mask in indoor public spaces (a surgical, KN95, or N95 mask is recommended over a cloth mask)
  • Get vaccinated or boosted when eligible (https://vaccinefinder.org)
    • Everyone 5+ should get vaccinated
    • Protection can weaken over time after getting vaccinated. Everyone 12+ should get a booster dose:
      • If you originally received Pfizer, get a booster dose 5 months after your second dose.
      • If you originally received Moderna, get a booster dose 6 months after your second dose.
      • If you originally received Johnson & Johnson, get a booster dose 2 months after your initial dose.

The Omicron variant is more easily transmitted. Everyone is strongly encouraged to use all available, effective strategies to prevent and reduce the spread of illness:

  • Seek testing if feeling ill, or if you have been exposed
  • Stay away from others if you are feeling ill, waiting for test results, or have tested positive* (www.washtenaw.org/covid19whattodo)
  • Avoid crowded areas or gatherings
  • Limit gatherings. If seeing others, increase ventilation (meet outside or open windows), keep at least 6 feet apart, and wear masks (especially if indoors).
  • Clean hands frequently

* A positive at-home test is considered a positive and does not need to be confirmed with a PCR or additional test. Local testing resources are stretched thin and transmission is high - if you have already tested positive, we do not recommend testing again before at least 5 days have passed and any symptoms improved or resolved. In some cases you may need a record of an official PCR test, such as for future travel or medical/insurance records, but it is not necessary for confirmation of infection.
