BREAKING: EMU Sports Practice Facility Collapses

Two Eastern Michigan University soccer teams were practicing inside "The Bubble" when a fabric split caused collapse.

An indoor sports practice facility known as “The Bubble” at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti collapsed about 8:30 a.m. Sunday, university officials confirmed in a statement.

Two soccer teams were practicing inside the facility when a split in the fabric of the roof caused the slow collapse, WEMU reported. There were no injuries and the soccer teams were evacuated.

EMU’s Geoff Larcom issued this statement:

“At approximately 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning, the fabric began to split from east to west in the Indoor Practice Facility at Eastern Michigan University and the air-supported structure began to deflate. Two area soccer teams were practicing in the facility at the time and left the facility without incident and without injury. We are assessing the situation to determine the cause of the fabric split.”
