Farmington Hills Announces March Programs at the Nature Center

The Farmington Hills Nature Center will offer a few fun programming options in March.

The Farmington Hills Nature Center announced three programs for March: maple sugaring, bluebird monitor training and a parents’ night out. The maple sugaring takes place Sunday, March 4 and Sunday, March 18, with three time slots available each day at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Participants will collect sap from maple trees at the center, boil it and make it into syrup. The program is $7 and requires pre-registration, either in person at the Costick Center on online at http://recreg.fhgov.com.

On Wednesday, March 7 from 6 to 8 p.m., the Nature Center will offer bluebird monitor training. Participants will learn how to gather information from the birds’ nest boxes for use by the Nestwatch online program at Cornell University. Cornell tracks information on
bluebirds from across the country. This event is open to all ages, but children must be accompanied by an adult. All materials and training are provided free, but the monitors must commit to visiting Heritage Park once a week to collect the data. The program is free, but pre-registration is strongly recommended at the Costick Center or at http://recreg.fhgov.com.

The Nature Center will host a parents’ night out Friday, March 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Parents are invited to enjoy a night out while their kids (at least those ages 6 to 12) participate in games, a night hike and live animal demos. The kids also get a take-home art project, so parents can get in on a little of the nature center fun. Kids should bring a snack and dress for outdoor exploring. The event is $20 per child for Farmington Hills residents or $25 per child for non-residents. Pre-registration is required at the Costick Center or at http://recreg.fhgov.com.
