Farmington Hills Offering Women’s Self Defense

Farmington Hills will host a women's self defense seminar Saturday, March 2 at the Costick Center.

The Farmington Hills/Farmington Emergency Preparedness Commission (EPC) will offer a women’s self-defense seminar on Saturday, March 3 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Costick Center, 28600 Eleven Mile Road, Farmington Hills.

The seminar will teach women to protect themselves and their families in what organizers call “a non-intimidating, supportive environment.” The seminar’s team of instructors will be led by David Swartz, an eighth degree black belt with over 40 years of experience in teaching self-defense. Participants can expect to move around while practicing new defense moves, soorganizers advise wearing comfortable clothing.

The free seminar is open to all girls and women, ages 13 and older. While the event is free, organizers are collecting tax-deductible donations Saturday for Kids Kicking Cancer, a 501(c)(3) organization that provides weekly martial arts classes as a way of easing pain for sick children while “promoting physical, spiritual, and emotional healing.”
