Farmington Hills Seeks Historic District Commission Member

The Farmington Hills Historic District is looking for a new member.

The Farmington Hills Historic District Commission (HDC) needs a new member to fill a vacant seat. The seven-member commission, appointed by City Council, works to preserve Farmington Hills’ historic districts. Any Farmington Hills resident is eligible to serve on the commission, though officials said in a statement that it helps to have “A legal and/or architectural background.”

Serving on the commission requires members to evaluate new properties and structures for inclusion as part of existing registered historic districts, reviewing applications for work residents want to do on the exteriors of structures in registered districts and to act as a steward and advocate for Farmington Hills’ historic structures. Commission members also offer education and advocacy for historic property owners. They work to create community awareness about commission and city services and programs, and coordinate with city departments about any developments that impacts historic districts

The Historic District Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month in the Community Room at Farmington Hills City Hall, 31555 Eleven Mile Road. To apply for the vacant board position, contact HDC Staff Liaison Angeline Lawrence at (248) 871-2553 or alawrence@fhgov.com.
