I-696 Between I-275, Lahser In Oakland County Reopens For Winter

Crews will return in the spring/summer 2025 to finish up additional work, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation​.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Both directions of Interstate 696 between Interstate 275 and Lahser Road in Oakland County have finally reopened after monthlong construction, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Although the lanes have reopened, crews will return in the spring/summer 2025 to finish up additional work, including pavement markings and landscape work, according to road officials.

This $275 million Interstate 696 Restore the Reuther project that has included rebuilding the roadway from the base up, storm sewer replacement and rebuilding the ramps at Orchard Lake Road, American Drive, Franklin Road and US-24 (Telegraph Road).

There will be another Interstate 696 construction project from Lahser Road to Interstate 75 beginning in 2025. That project will last for about three years. Officials will release more information in early 2025.
