Preservation Society Offers Free Barn To Anyone Who Can Move It
An 1890s barn in downtown Farmington needs a new home and is free to anyone able to move it.

A barn in downtown Farmington is free to anyone who’ll move it from a piece of recently-purchased downtown real estate. The new owner of an 1890s house and barn says he’ll demolish the structures soon, so Preservation Farmington, a community group working to preserve historic architecture, is helping him offer the barn to anyone able to move it, according to a post on the group’s Facebook page.
“We've got an early 1890s barn in Downtown Farmington that's looking for a new home. Would you like it? Or do you know someone who would?” the message asks. “If you want it, you'll have to act quickly: It needs to be gone by early March at the latest,” the message continues. The barn is located at 32905 Grand River. The home sold to a new property owner who says he wants to demolish the barn, but that anyone willing to pay to move it is welcome to the structure for.
Preservation Farmington says the barn “is in really solid condition. It's a cool building: two stories, high ceiling, three horse stalls (each with its own window), original grain chute. While it's bigger than a shed, it's not as big as some barns are, which will make it easier to move.”

The message went up at the end of January, and, so far, there haven’t been any takers, although in the last day, one person posted to say “Has anyone offered to take it yet? Very interested.” If you’re also “very interested” in owning this barn, you can email preservationfarmington@gmail.com or leave a comment or message for them on Facebook.
