Red Wings Add Offensive Firepower With Oakland County Native
Alex DeBrincat, a two-time 41-goal scorer, will likely join a line with center Dylan Larkin, making a solid one-two punch.

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — The Detroit Red Wings added some much-needed offensive firepower with the acquisition of star winger Alex DeBrincat.
The two-time 41-goal scorer and Farmington Hills native, who played youth hockey in the Detroit-based Victory Honda program, will likely join a line with center Dylan Larkin and winger David Perron or winger Lucas Raymond, making for one of the best offensive lines the Wings have had in a while.
DeBrincat, 25, has racked up 373 points (187 goals, 186 assists) in 450 NHL games with the Ottawa Senators and the Chicago Blackhawks, whom picked him no. 39 overall, in the 2016 NHL draft.

Moreover, DeBrincat was among the Senators top points leaders with 66 points, including 27 goals and 39 assists. Of those 27 goals, 11 were scored on the powerplay, something the Red Wings struggled with all of last season.
In addition to the powerplay, the Wings struggled to score goals in general last season, ranking 24 in total goals scored last season. The bottom ten ranking also came after the Wings traded two big goalscorers last season, Jakub Vrana and Tyler Bertuzzi.

The Wings' last 40-goal scorer was Marian Hossa, who scored 40 goals during his one and only season with Detroit in 2008-09.
Red Wings general manger Steve Yzerman traded forward Dominik Kubalik, defensive prospect Donovan Sebrango, a conditional 2024 first-round draft pick (either Detroit's or Boston's) and Detroit’s 2024 fourth-round selection in exchange for DeBrincat.
DeBrincat then agreed to a long-term contract with Wings worth 7.875 million annually over the next four years.
Kubalik, 27, played in all but one game last season with the Wings and recorded a career-high 25 assists and scored 20 goals.
Sebrango, 21, split last season with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins and the ECHL's Toledo Walleye. He scored one goal and recorded 11 assists in 23 games with Toledo and four goals and three assists in 39 games with Grand Rapids.
