Semi Truck Crash Closes WB I-696 In Oakland County: Police

Troopers said no one was hurt, but didn't say if there were any other vehicles involved in the crash.

SOUTHFIELD, MI — All westbound lanes on Interstate 696 near Telegraph Road in Southfield were closed Wednesday morning after a semi truck crashed into the median wall around 6 a.m. and scattered steel coil rolls all over the freeway, Michigan State Police said.

Multiple eastbound lanes on the freeway were closed as well, as police warned drivers to find alternative routes.

State troopers encouraged drivers to use the mile roads as a way to get around, but they should expect heavy traffic.

Officials said the cleanup will take 2 to 3 hours.

"Lane closures will likely be in place for hours due to the clean-up effort," troopers said. "Stay away from I-696 in Southfield if you can."
