Fenton Family Raises Funds in Memory of Joseph A. Bono

On April 1, 2012, TEAM JOE BONO will be walking in Breathe Deep Ann Arbor in memory of JOSEPH ANTHONY BONO.

Joe Bono a life long non-smoker was diagnosed with lung cancer more than 8 years ago at age 42. Joe was given a 15% chance of living five years. He passed away on MARCH 5, 2012.

Joe was a strong, good looking man, an athlete, playing basketball, baseball and football growing up and softball, golf and running as an adult. He was always in excellent physical condition, lifting weights and even training for the Crim race in Flint. It happened as he was training for this running event that he noticed a persistent cough which on October 2, 2003 would be diagnosed as stage III lung cancer.

This athletic training diagnosed his cancer early and his excellent health and physical condition contributed to his strength and endurance allowing him to live way beyond the prognosis he was given.

Joe was an “in charge” kind of guy. He researched and directed his medical condition and treatments. He was a strong believer in being your own patient advocate and would often help family and friends with research and advice on their own medical conditions.

Joe is survived by his wife Gina, his daughters Alyson, Hannah and Miranda, 2 ½ year old triplet daughters, Madison, Sydney and Caelyn all of Fenton, his father and mother, Joseph and Claire Bono of Sterling Heights, sisters Claire A. Bono (Ben Mogill) of Lake Orion, Cathy Keppers (Dennis) of Findlay, OH, brothers Charlie Bono (Christa) of Gaylord, MI, John Bono of Waterford, Jim Bono (Denise) of Van Wert,

OH and Steve Bono (Debbie) of Madison, AL. He has many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was a member of The in Fenton.

He did his part to help find a cure for lung cancer by enrolling in 4 new clinical trials. He was by far one of the strongest individuals we know both physically and spiritually. He was an inspiration to us all. We are truly blessed to have known him.

TEAM JOE BONO has 24 family and friends registered to walk in this event and have already raised over $10,000.00 for research funding for lung cancer. “We are raising money to honor the memory of Joe and to help fund research to find a cure for the lung cancer that took him from us so early”, says Joe’s sister, Claire. “We are hoping to increase awareness, lung cancer receives less than 5% of federal cancer research funding but accounts for 27% of cancer deaths.”

Proceeds from this event will benefit LUNGevity Foundation, the leading private provider of research funding for lung cancer.
