Fenton Film Series Extends Into Summer
Next showing will be Urban Roots on July 13.

When the curtains in September of last year, organizers hoped would continue through May.
To their delight, the ongoing eventβs unique mix of local food, live music and thought-provoking film proved to be too much fun to stop for the summer.Β
βWe didn't want to interfere with the outdoor children's movie series thatΒ Β sponsors during the summer months,β said organizer .

It was officials from SLPR, however, who encouraged Fenton Films to extend their series through the summer at the .
βThey thought the two movie series complimented each other and offered the public more opportunities to come to the downtown area and enjoy the community center,β Strayer said. βThe Fenton Film Series sponsors were all very enthusiastic about extending through the summer.β

The forthcoming lineup promises to live up to the high standards set by the young film seriesβ first nine months. The features a potpourri of independent, classic and documentary movies not often offered by theaters. This July will feature the Detroit documentaryΒ Urban RootsΒ about the resurgence of farming inside Michiganβs major metro area.
βWe are very excited about this opportunity,β said Strayer. βThis is the first time the Fenton Film Series will be screening a new film which has yet to be released to the general public.β
The heart of the Fenton Film Series is community, and the summer dates will offer plenty of that as well. The monthly event has screened film shorts by local filmmakers such asΒ TimelessΒ by Steven Coffee and Little by Little by Peter Putnam, both of whom are graduates. The series will continue to provide viewers with local foods and live music by area musicians.Β
The Fenton Film Series takes place on the second Wednesday of each month. The doors open with food and music at 6 p.m., and the movies begin at 7 p.m.
