Garden Fresh Gourmet Will Provide 1 Million Meals to Hungry People in Metro Detroit

America’s #1 fresh salsa and America’s largest and most efficient food rescue organization are teaming up to offer Metro Detroit schools, churches, organizations and civic groups a new fun, healthy and profitable group fundraising program.

Garden Fresh Gourmet and Forgotten Harvest will hold an open house on Thursday, April 18, at Garden Fresh’s Ferndale headquarters to introduce local school and community group leaders to the new “Forgotten Harvest Fundraising Heroes-Sponsored by Garden Fresh Gourmet” program which will be launching for the 2013-14 school year.
 
In addition to raising money for the participating schools and organizations through the sale of Garden Fresh salsa and other gourmet deli items, Fundraising Heroes will also support Forgotten Harvest, which rescues surplus prepared and perishable food from farms, producers, retailers and other venues and delivers it free of charge to emergency food providers in Southeastern Michigan. As part of its ongoing effort to give back to the community that has supported its growth, Garden Fresh has committed to providing one million meals to hungry people in Metro Detroit through Forgotten Harvest.
 
“Our company is built around fresh and healthy food,” said Jack Aronson, founder and president of Garden Fresh. “It’s an obvious fit for us to be working with Forgotten Harvest to bring a million meals of fresh and healthy food to the tables of people facing hunger in Metro Detroit.”
 
This is not the first time that Garden Fresh has supported Forgotten Harvest.
 
“Jack and Annette Aronson and the entire Garden Fresh team are great supporters of Forgotten Harvest and of our mission,” said Forgotten Harvest President & CEO Susan Goodell. “They’ve not only supported us financially, but also with food and invaluable expertise in handling and production. Garden Fresh and Forgotten Harvest expect significant interest in the region for the Fundraising Heroes program.
 
“Groups are supporting a local company creating local jobs, they’re supporting a local organization doing great work in the community and they’re offering a product that people love and one that’s healthier and fresher than provided by most traditional food fundraising programs,” said Mike Griffin, creative director of Garden Fresh. “The Fundraising Heroes program just makes sense for everybody involved and our initial response has been tremendous.”
