Large Dog Found Dead In Grease Pit Behind Oakland County Restaurant: Sheriff

Oakland County Animal Control is investigating the death as a possible case of animal cruelty.​

MADISON HEIGHTS, MI β€” Police are investigating after a dog was found dead in a grease pit behind an Oakland County restaurant Friday, according to the sheriff's office.

The dog, a Bullmastiff, was found near the intersection of John R Road and Woodward Heights Boulevard in Madison Heights, officials said.

Officials said the owner of the business was dumping grease in the dumpster when he noticed the carcass. He then called animal control in Madison Heights, who referred the case to Oakland County Animal Control, officials said.

Officials said the dog weighed more than 100 pounds and the blanket was soaked in grease, making it difficult to remove the carcass.

Crews had to use winches to pull out the carcass, officials said.

Oakland County Animal Control is investigating the death as a possible case of animal cruelty.
