Man Arrested In Deadly Shooting Of Oakland Co. DoorDash Driver: Police

Police believe the shooting was a result of road rage.

FERNDALE, MI β€” A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left a DoorDash driver dead in Oakland County last month, according to police.

The shooting happened at 1:45 a.m. on March 9 near the intersection of Woodward Avenue and 8 Mile in Ferndale, according to police.

Moments after the shooting, a 911 caller told officials they saw a man collapse outside a Ford Escape, according to police.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to police.

Terrell Simms, 39, of Oak Park was charged with second-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, firearm possession and two counts of a firearm in the shooting. He was placed in jail and denied bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 17.

Police said Diallo was working as a DoorDash delivery driver on the morning he was killed. He had just picked up an order from the White Castle on Woodward near 8 Mile and turned around to head south, police said.

As Diallo turned, police said Simms was speeding down Woodward in a GMC pickup and nearly hit Diallo's Ford Escape.

At 8 Mile, police said Simms abruptly stopped to wait for Diallo to catch up. Once Diallo arrived at the intersection, Simms fired six rounds into his car, hitting him once in the torso, ultimately killing the 26-year-old.

Police believe the shooting was a result of road rage.

Two others were also arrested in connection with the shooting, but they were released as the investigation continues.

"This was a senseless act of violence that took the life of an innocent man who was simply working to make ends meet," said Ferndale Police Chief Dennis Emmi. "This case demonstrates how dedicated police work and strong community partnerships can bring justice to the victim and his family."
