Urban Renaissance Center to expand youth agriculture workforce initiative in Flint (midmichigannow.com) — Flint’s Urban Renaissance Center is expanding its Fruits of Our Labor youth agriculture program in the Civic Park neighborhood with new support from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The initiative turns vacant lots into productive gardens, tackles food insecurity and blight, and creates youth job pathways, with plans to activate about 3.5 acres by spring 2026.

2. Flint seeing an increase in arson cases (wnem.com) — Arson cases are up 27% in Flint, with at least 70 incidents this year, many tied to squatters seeking warmth in vacant homes and putting neighbors and firefighters at risk. City leaders are pushing for more winter shelter beds, tougher enforcement, and closer coordination with police, prosecutors, and the Genesee County Land Bank to secure dangerous vacant properties.
   

3. Flint man pleads guilty in Grand Blanc Township road rage shooting (mlive.com) — A 21-year-old Flint man has pleaded guilty to reduced charges after firing multiple shots at another driver during a July road rage incident in Grand Blanc Township, avoiding an assault-with-intent-to-murder trial. He accepted a three-year prison sentence and is set for formal sentencing in Genesee County Circuit Court on January 26, 2026.
