ANNOUNCEMENT: Community Development Public Needs Hearing (theflintcouriernews.com) — Genesee County residents can weigh in on neighborhood improvement priorities at a public Community Development Needs Hearing on Thursday, December 18, at 1 p.m. in the County Administration Building. Hosted by the Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission, with offices on South Saginaw Street in downtown Flint, the session invites comments on 2026 project plans and overall program effectiveness, including emailed feedback.

2. Mott Foundation commits $5.3 million for new high school in Flint (philanthropynewsdigest.org) — Flint Community Schools just received a major boost, with the Mott Foundation committing more than $5.3 million toward planning and developing a new high school. The money will fund demolition of the former Flint Central High and Whittier buildings, preserve key architectural elements, and advance design work, with demolition expected early next year and overall work targeted for completion by 2026.
   

3. General Motors Puts Finishing Touch On New HQ (mediapost.com) — A once-prominent sculpture originally created for Genesee Valley Mall in Flint has found a new home inside General Motors’ soon-to-open global headquarters in downtown Detroit. The 26-foot Harry Bertoia piece, long thought lost after leaving Flint, was rediscovered in Southfield and painstakingly installed through a five-story opening in the new Hudson’s Detroit building, linking GM’s design heritage to both Flint and Detroit.
   

4. University Staff United pickets outside Winter Commencement (michigandaily.com) — Staff at the University of Michigan are protesting a contract offer that would give only a 1% yearly raise to workers on the Dearborn and Flint campuses, below recent inflation. Union members say the university can afford fairer pay and chose Winter Commencement to highlight how staff who support students from admission to graduation are struggling to keep up with rising costs.
