1. Mott plans to grant up to $2B in the next decade with 60% focused on Flint (mlive.com) — Flint is set to benefit from more than $1.2 billion in planned giving as the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation commits 60% of a new $2 billion, decade-long grant plan to the city. The money targets education, school facilities, housing, neighborhood revitalization, and childhood poverty, building on recent investments in Flint Community Schools and efforts to replace blight with stronger, safer neighborhoods.

2. Former Genesee Twp. Police Officer charged with felony (wnem.com) — A former Genesee Township police officer has been charged in Flint with misconduct in office and a misdemeanor tied to how he handled a 2025 crash involving a relative. Investigators say he challenged Mt. Morris Township’s findings, conducted his own unauthorized probe, and used a fraudulent subpoena to access vehicle data. A probable cause conference is set for Jan. 22.

3. Testing found ‘very minute' mold levels in closed section of Flint City Hall complex (mlive.com) — Flint city officials say recent testing found only very small amounts of mold in a basement area of the City Hall complex, including space connecting police headquarters to the main building. Some water-damaged drywall has been removed, and police union leaders continue pressing for a thorough review to protect officers and staff who’ve long worried about air quality in the municipal complex.

4. Genesee Intermediate School District Host FAFSA Workshop (midmichigannow.com) — A free FAFSA help workshop was just held in Flint to guide Genesee County students and families through the new financial aid application and unlock Michigan scholarships. Organizers say thousands in aid go unclaimed locally each year, and they’re urging more Flint-area students to complete the FAFSA so they can access grants, work-study, and the Michigan Achievement Scholarship.

5. 4-year-old seriously injured, Flint woman killed in head-on crash (abc12.com) — A 59-year-old Flint woman died and a 4-year-old girl from Flint was seriously injured after their Jeep crossed the center line on M-57 in Thetford Township and hit a pickup head-on. The pickup’s driver from Otisville suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and Michigan State Police are still investigating what caused the Flint driver to lose control.
