Person shot, another arrested at Mott Community College (mlive.com) — Police are investigating a shooting at Mott Community College’s Ballenger Field House in Flint, where one person was shot Saturday and another taken into custody. Officials say there’s no believed ongoing threat but are urging people to stay away from campus while officers remain on scene and details about the victim and suspect are still withheld.

2. 'Never seen anything like it': 100 inmates unite in prayer at Mich. jail (corrections1.com) — A powerful Christmas Eve moment inside the Genesee County Jail in Flint saw about 100 inmates spontaneously join hands and recite the Lord’s Prayer, a surveillance video that has since gone viral. Sheriff Chris Swanson says the scene reflects broader cultural changes driven by education, trades training, and community programs aimed at helping inmates rebuild their lives and reduce repeat incarceration.
   

3. Pioneering Clayton Township police chief to retire on 62nd birthday in 2026 (mlive.com) — Clayton Township’s pioneering police chief Charlotte Brown, who started her career inspired by women at the Flint Police Department, will retire on her 62nd birthday, March 8, after 35 years in law enforcement. Serving Genesee County and Clayton Township, she reflects on being the department’s first Black woman chief, mentoring younger women, and helping guide the transition to her successor before stepping down.
   

4. Ole Miss starting OL Delano Townsend enters transfer portal (therebelwalk.com) — A former Flint high school standout, offensive lineman Delano Townsend, is leaving Ole Miss after helping anchor a record-setting season that reached the College Football Playoff. His journey from Flint to UAB to Ole Miss highlights persistence over hype as he now re-enters the transfer portal seeking his next opportunity on the offensive line.
   

5. Betty Jane Saule (tctimes.com) — A longtime Fenton resident who once worked with the Head Start program in Flint has passed away at age 87. Services for Betty Jane Saule will be held in Fenton this July, with her family inviting memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association and sharing memories of her active community life and love for family.
