Mayor Sheldon Neeley issued the following statement regarding Ajax Materials Corporation’s permit approval, which was announced today by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE):

“The decision to approve the Ajax Materials Corporation’s permit is very disappointing to say the least. This poses the question, does current law support environmental injustices? In this case, I say yes. This continues to happen in poor to moderate communities with predominantly black and brown residents like Flint. We must work even harder to find ways to change environmental policies, and to make sure companies cannot come in or close to our communities without consideration of our families health and safety first.”
