Man who fired shots at officer during 14-mile chase faces life sentence (mlive.com) — A Swartz Creek man faces up to life in prison after a jury convicted him of assault with intent to murder and other charges stemming from a 14-mile police chase that began near Flint. Prosecutors say he fired multiple shots at officers after his burning van stopped, but no officers or bystanders were injured.

Service members, veterans welcomed home for the holidays during Operation Handshake (wnem.com) — Service members and veterans arriving at Flint Bishop International Airport were greeted with flags, handshakes, and thanks during the Operation Handshake holiday welcome. Local Patriot Guard Riders, including Vietnam veterans, say they participate to give today’s troops the warm homecoming they never received and encourage residents to show appreciation year-round.
   

5. Settlement reached in Flint water crisis, but will payouts solve lingering concerns? (finalcall.com) — Flint residents affected by the water crisis are now being told that checks from the $626 million settlement are available, but many still face confusion, mistrust, and paperwork hurdles. Local activists and legal workers say residents should verify their eligibility and note that health concerns, including a major cancer study, remain unresolved even as payments roll out.
