Mom Charged After 7-Year-Old Brought Gun To School: Reports
The boy told police he worried his mother would "get into trouble" in relation to the gun, according to WZZM.
GRAND RAPIDS, MI β The mother of a child who brought a gun to a Grand Rapids elementary school appeared in court Thursday, according to reports.
Aubrey Wilson is charged with fourth-degree child abuse in connection with the incident involving her 7-year-old son, while her fiance, Chelsea Berkley, is charged with possessing a gun while being a felon, The Detroit News reported.
The child took the weapon May 3 to Cesar E. Chavez Elementary School and told police he worried his mother would βget into troubleβ in relation to the gun and that she instructed him not to tell anybody about the firearm, according to WZZM.

Berkley bought the gun on the street, WOOD reported, noting Wilson, who could face up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine, pleaded not guilty.
Grand Rapids Public Schools last week became the second district in Michigan to ban backpacks after four handguns were confiscated from students on school grounds during the current academic year, and three of the weapons were in backpacks.
