Anything Goes Musical Opens Thursday at North

The cast and crew of 's spring musical, Anything Goes, will perform for a live audience for the first time today after two months worth of rehearsal that began just after winter break.

The show is a love story that unfolds during a cruise hosting a variety of personalities. Sprinkled with comedy and irony, there are 52 Grosse Pointe North students cast in the production. There is also a behind-the-scene student production crew handling sound, lighting, props and more.

Director Marty Bufalini said the group only began adding costumes and makeup to rehearsals within the last few weeks but they've been working on the production since returning from winter break.

Helping Bufalini are Dave Cleveland, who is directing the pit musicians, Don Bishchoff, the cherographer, and Ben Henri, the vocal director. Additionally, Bufalini said there are many parents who have been helping make costumes, sold ads and more.

Speaking to the talent of the students, Bufalini said "everyone does a really good job. There is always a lot of tweaking to be done" in rehearsals.

There are some new students in the production as well as those who keep returning for parts in the student plays, he said.

During his eight years working with North actors, Bufalini said his goal has always been to build the program as a professional show. The audience the peformances draw, he said, are telling. There are many more people from the public who attend, he said, explaining the audience is not just filled with families of those on stage.

Three performances are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Grosse Pointe Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors and balcony seating is $8 with open seating.
