Bashara Takes the Stand

Former GPP residents dishes out the blame Friday morning

Former Grosse Pointe Park businessman, Bob Bashara, took the stand Friday morning in a hearing after he claimed he was denied a fair trial.

Bashara, who was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife, Jane, in 2012, wasted little time in dishing out blame for his circumstance, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press.

His former attorneys, the police, prosecutors, witnesses and reporters were all targets Friday morning as Bashara answered questions from prosecutors.

Along with blame, Bashara claimed he “absolutely” loved his wife, more even than his longtime mistress, Rachel Gillett, who he referred to as his “slave.”

Officials contend Bashara orchestrated his wife’s murder with handyman Richard Gentz, who is currently serving a term of 17-28 years for second-degree murder.

Bashara holds to the claim he had nothing to do with his wife’s murder.

A jury convicted Bashara on five counts, including first-degree murder, in December 2014.
