Grosse Pointe Farms Question 3 Teens in Touraine Road Home Break-In

The burglary was not immediately reported by the teenage resident who discovered it and the case is being investigated.

police are investigating the break-in of a home in the 200 block of Touraine Road and are questioning at least three teenagers.

A neighbor called police about noon April 21 after noticing that the garage door was open knowing the homeowner was out of town. Then the neighbor spotted two teenagersβ€”one of whom lives at the homeβ€”exit from the garage holding knives.

Responding officers questioned the teens, who said they grabbed kitchen knives to search the home after discovering it had been broken into for the second time. The teenager who lives at the home said he'd returned home early from vacation earlier that day to find that the master bedroom had been ransacked and jewelry was missing.Β

Rather than calling police, the teen told officers he went to clear his head with his friend. The pair went to downtown Detroit to spray paint graffiti and returned to the home to find that it had been broken into againβ€”this time two flat-panel televisions were gone, according to police reports.

Officers found signs of forced entry on a side door.Β Officers searched the home to find that the master bedroom appeared to have been ransacked with jewelry boxes lying on the bed and a flat-screen television missing. Another smaller television was missing from the teen's bedroom and several drawers were open. When officers were searching that bedroom, they also found marijuana, pipes, cash and cigarettes under the bed, all of which were confiscated.Β

The resident's friend identified a suspect to police as soon as officers approached the house and a few minutes later that suspect drove past the house. Officers stopped that vehicle and, after confirming the passenger was indeed the person identified as a suspect, asked him to get out of the vehicle. He is an 18-year-old Farms resident who told officers he had marijuana on him. He was charged with possession of marijuana and taken to the police department for questioning.

The other two teenagersβ€”ages 16 and 17 and both Farms residentsβ€”were taken to the police department for questioning, according to police reports.Β

The case is under investigation and the amount or value of jewelry stolen is unknown.Β
