Michelin-Starred Restaurateur Opening New Metro Detroit Spot Next Week

The restaurant's menu will feature street-style tacos with vegan and vegetarian options, as well as build-your-own burritos and bowls.

GROSSE POINTE WOODS, MI — An award-winning restaurateur and Detroit area native is opening a new restaurant in metro Detroit next week.

Lola's Taco Bar will open in the former Boston Market space at 20195 Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods next Monday.

The new fast-casual taco joint will be headed by Branden McRill, who is a Grosse Pointe native and earned the Michelin star at his now-shuttered restaurant Rebelle in New York. He is teaming up with Detroit-area chef Brandon Zarb, Mel Fuechtmann and Niko Moschouris.

"Lola’s is meant to be a place you come back to again and again," McRill said in a news release announcing the opening. "Great tacos, affordable margaritas, warm hospitality — that’s what makes a neighborhood restaurant work."

The menu will feature street-style tacos with vegan and vegetarian options, as well as build-your-own burritos and bowls. A drink menu will include margaritas, beers and non-alcoholic options.

The restaurant will have indoor seating and a walk-up window for carry-out orders. They are also expected to add a patio set sometime this spring.

"The taco is the perfect vehicle for delivering big flavors to a wide audience," Zarb said in a statement. "We’re being careful about respecting traditions while applying some culinary techniques to the freshest products available. We want you to find a taco that satisfies everyone at the table at Lola’s, whether you’re a taco purist, an adventurous eater, or even someone looking for some great vegan or healthy options."

The group also plans to give back to the community with its "The Good Taco" initiative. Money raised from the rotating taco menu item will be donated to support schools, teams, local organizations and other charitable causes in the community.

"We wanted giving back to be something real, not symbolic," said Fuechtmann. "This partnership is about showing up for the community in a tangible way."
