North Boys Swim Team Ends Season With Best State Meet
Grosse Pointe North swimmers set several records during the best state meet they've competed in in more than 25 years.

The Boys Swimming and Diving Team finished the 2012 season with its best state meet finish in more than 25 years.
North finished in ninth place in the Division 2 State Championship held at Holland Aquatic Center Friday and Saturday. North was led by All State performances by James McNelis ( 1 meter diving), Justin Rakowicz (500 yard freestyle) and Christian Mellos (200 yard individual medley and 100 yard breastroke).

McNelis effort in the 1 meter diving earned him All American Consideration status. Rakowicz also finished tenth in the 200 yard freestyle. The North 200 yard medley relay team of Mattthew Leone, Christian Mellos, Justin Rakowicz and Peter Shea earned All State Honors with a new GPN Varsity.
Record North's 400 yard freestyle relay of Justin Rakowicz, Patrick Turnbull, Peter Shea and Christian Mellos furnished additional points with a 13th place finish.

Rakowicz's time on the leadoff leg of the relay established a new GPN record in the 100 yard freestyle, eclipsing a record that was set in 1994.
Peter Shea competed inthe 200 yard freestyle (23rd place) and the 500 yard freeestyle (17th place). Matt Leone swam in the 50 yard freestyle (44th place) and the 100 yard backstroke (26th place).
