North Swimmer Breaks School Record in Meet

The Boys Swimming and Diving Team finished in fourth place at the MAC Red Division Swimming and Diving Championship held at North Feb. 23 to 25.

The team won six of 11 swimming events--setting five in the Macomb Area Conference--three pool and three varsity records during the weekend meet.

Christian Mellos was a double winner taking the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard breastroke in new MAC, Pool and Varsity records. His time in the 200 yard individual medley broke a 15-year-old North record. For his efforts Mellos was awarded the MAC Red Division Swimmer of the Meet Award.

Justin Rakowicz won  the 200 and 500 yard freestyle in MAC record times.

Both Mellos and Rakowicz's times in their events were D2 state qualifying times.

The 200 yard medley team of Matthew Leone, Christian Mellos, Justin Rakowicz and Peter Shea set a new MAC pool and varsity record.

The winning 400 yard freestyle team of Justin Rakowicz, Matthew Leone Peter Shea and Christian Mellos set a D2 state qualifying time. Peter Shea's fifth place time in the 200 yard freestyle and 2nd place time in the 500 yard freestyleas well as  Matthew Leone's seventh place time in the 50 yard freestyle established a D2 state qualifying times.

Season best performances were recorded in the following events:

50 yard freestyle: Matthew Leone, Patrick Turnbull and Matt Stander

100 yard freestyle: Justin Rakowicz, A.J. Owens and Graham Eger

200 yard frestyle: Justin Rakowicz, Peter Shea and Danny MacAskill

500 yard freestyle: Justin Rakowicz, Peter Shea and Danny MacAskill

100 yard backstroke: John Leone

100 yard breastroke: Christian Mellos, Patrick Turnbull and Matt Stander

200 yard individual medley: Christian Mellos and Patrick Turnbull
