Police Blotter: Prescription Fraud Reported
The following information was gathered from the Public Safety Departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

police are investigating a woman believed to be submitting false prescription orders to Kroger Pharmacy after the store employees received another request Nov. 27.
Employees told responding officers the woman has been filling prescriptions with falsely written orders at several of the Pharmacies for a while. The prescriptions she has had filled and for one that is pending this week are for Ritalin and written as if the pills are for her mother. Employees provided police with the fake prescription orders, a video-surveillance video of her entering and submitting the orders, and copies of a legitimate prescription, according to a report.

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating a possible defrauding of a 72-year-old resident who hired a man to do repair work and waterproofing to her basement. The woman called police because she believes she has paid the worker about $10,000 in the last several months in connection with three different projects he was to complete in her basement. She paid him for the supplies and to do the work. She provided police with three contracts—one was a handwritten contract on the back of an advertisement. She also said the worker was recommended to her by a neighbor, and he had been working slowly or not at all since being hired. She called police after they disagreed about the amount of work he was to do to the floor. He said he was only to do part of the floor while she was under the impression he was to do the entire floor, according to a report.

police are investigating the theft of four wheels from a Buick LaCrosse parked in the driveway of a home in the 50 block of Moross Road. A patrol officer spotted the car sitting on top of two large decorative rocks that had been moved from the foot of the driveway. The wheels were missing. The officer contacted the car's owner, who said he was not aware of the car being in such condition. The owner believes the wheels, valued at $3,000, were stolen overnight from Nov. 25 to 26, according to a report.
Drunken Driving Arrest
police arrested a 41-year-old Detroit man Nov. 27 for drunken driving. The dispatcher received a 911 regarding a possible drunken driver near Jefferson and Cadieux Road shortly after midnight. A patrol officer was able to get behind the described vehicle, observed the driver stay stopped for a green light and then when he did begin driving, he swerved in the roadway striking the curb. The man failed to stop immediately once the officer turned on his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. After slowly rolling to a stop on Jefferson Road near Island Lane, the officer noticed the man smelled of alcohol. He denied drinking but failed field sobriety tests. He was given several breathalyzer tests but failed to complete them properly, giving a variety of results ranging from 0.12 to 0.18. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and he is expected in court Dec. 1.
Drugged Driving Arrest
Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 23-year-old City of Grosse Pointe man Nov. 25 after finding him slumped over behind the wheel of a BMW on Hall Place. The car was running and the man was slow to react to police orders and questions. He told officers he was on several prescription medications and gave officers two bottles that had less pills than they should have according to the dose he was assigned to take and the refill date. He was unsteady on his feet when he stepped from the vehicle and failed field sobriety tests. He took a portable breath test, which registered as at zero. The man consented to having his blood drawn for an analysis of any drugs that he may have had in his system. Police received several phone calls about the man's erratic driving, including from one man who told police he called after being nearly run off Lake Shore Road by him. He followed the man until he stopped in the 100 block of Hall Place, which is when he called police. The man has been preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. During a search of his car, officers found drug pipes, tin foil with a brown substance believed to be methamphetamine and a narcotic straw, according to a report.
$1,200 Stolen from Unlocked Truck
Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating the theft of a wallet from an unlocked truck parked in the 300 block of Ridgemont Road Nov. 25. The truck's owner found that his vehicle had been entered overnight and a wallet containing $1,200 cash, his driver's license and two credit cards was stolen, according to the report.
Damage to Vehicle Under Investigation
Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating damage to a vehicle parked in a garage on Lothrop Road. The vehicle's owner and the woman who lives at the home told police they believe her estranged husband is responsible for the damage. A bolt from a tool bench inside the garage was removed from its packaging and placed under the tire of the man, who popped the tire while backing out of the garage Nov. 23. The woman told police her car had sustained similar damage recently. This is at least the second time police have been called to the home regarding the domestic dispute. The first time the same man and woman reported that the estranged husband threatened to kill the man, according to reports.
Teen Arrested for Smoking, Possessing Marijuana
Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 17-year-old resident Nov. 23 about 8:30 a.m. for possession of marijuana. Police received a call about a girl smoking marijuana in the 90 block of Handy Road. An officer found the vehicle described and stopped the teenager near Grosse Pointe South High School. She admitted to smoking marijuana, told the officer it helped her concentrate and then allowed him to search her car, where he found 0.9 grams of marijuana. She was taken into custody and charged with possession of marijuana, according to a report.
Vehicle Stolen from Parking Lot
A 45-year-old Farmington woman reported her Dodge Caravan stolen from the parking lot of to Grosse Pointe Woods police Nov. 27. The woman told officers she locked her van and left it about 4 p.m. She returned for it about 5:30 p.m. to discover it was gone. Responding officers did not see any broken glass or other signs of forced entry in the area where the car had been parked. The woman reported that she had purchased about $180 worth of Christmas presents from Meijer that were in the trunk, according to a report.
Employee Reports Suspicious Behavior
Grosse Pointe Woods police are giving a Mack Avenue retail store special attention after an employee reported having a visit by a suspicious person whom another customer identified as carrying a gun. The man was identified by store employees as acting suspiciously after he arrived. He looked at merchandise, did not ask any questions and left without making a purchase. After he left, another customer approached a sales associate to say the suspicious man was carrying a gun in his back pocket. The employee reported the situation because another location of the chain located in Roseville had been robbed at gunpoint only a few weeks ago, according to a report.
Restaurant Employee Alleges Battery by Co-Worker
Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating a battery reported a 26-year-old employee of a local restaurant. The man walked into the police department Nov. 26 to report he had been battered by a co-worker and was suffering pain to his head. He told police the other employee put him in a headlock and punched him in the head four times with a closed fist. He also showed officers his earring, which he said was broken during the altercation. Officers went to the restaurant and talked with the owner, the fellow employee who is accused, and others. All of them admitted to rough-housing amongst the staff and some said they saw the headlock but never saw either of the men strike each other. The man was taken to an area hospital via ambulance from the Woods police department, according to a report.
Toilet Fixtures Reported Stolen
Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the theft of toilet fixtures stolen out of the men's restroom in the Van Elslander Cancer Center Nov. 22. A security official noticed the fixtures on the toilets were missing and provided police with their internal report. This is the third time such fixtures have been stolen from various men's bathrooms throughout the building.
