Driver blocks ramp
A 37-year-old Detroit resident was arrested for an open container of alcohol, operating under the influence of alcohol, driving while license suspended and an outstanding warrant after a Grosse Pointe Woods police officer spotted him blocking traffic at Harper and Stanhope during the early morning hours Sept. 17. Initially the man had stopped at the exit ramp. An officer pulled up and observed the driver was sleeping. After numerous attempts to wake him, he finally woke him and was told to clear the intersection. When he stopped, and the officer approached the vehicle, a report stated the driver smelled of alcohol, and had blood shot eyes. A check of the driver's record found that he had numerous contacts with the law and had a record that included 78 current suspensions and four prior alcohol convictions. A check of the vehicle found a bottle of vodka on the floor and cup of suspected alcohol in the cup holder. The driver was taken to Cottage Hospital for a blood draw.
