Wanted: Photos of Veterans

Often the soldiers who die are recognized heavily for their service, Veteran's Day was established to recognize those who have served, survived and now live among us. Recognize a veteran you know by adding a picture to the photo gallery.

There are more than 24 million veterans who have served in the armed forces, returned and are now living among us in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.

We all know someone—a friend, a neighbor, a relative—and today is the day to recognize and appreciate them. Yes of course, they should be recognized for their significant contribution every day but today is the official established day.

Grosse Pointe Patch would like to extend a huge thank you to all service men and women. To recognize the all veterans living among us, please upload a photo of a veteran you know.

We've started the gallery with one photograph we believe to be relevant—eighth-graders from standing in front of the Gettysburg National Military Park.

The students recently traveled to Gettysburg, PA, following their segment on the Civil War. They were required to memorize the Gettysburg Address for their visit to the National Cemetery.
