Hartland's Heritage Park Officially Opens

Providing a safe place for young athletes to practice and compete, members of the community were on hand Monday night to dedicate Hartland's newest sports complex, Heritage Park.

Hartland Township Supervisor Bill Fountain thanked several community groups such as HAYAA and Hartland Community Soccer, as well as the parents and volunteers for their support.

"There's a lot of people that are here today that sat in a lot of rooms with drawings, that sat dreaming of this day," he said.

Hartland High School senior Jacob Scherba was also honored during the ribbon cutting ceremony for helping to name the complex.

"I'd like the park to be the kind of place where a grandfather who grew up in Hartland could see his grandson play," Scherba wrote in his Name That Place contest.

Focusing on the small-town feel and community atmosphere, Scherba said he thought it was "fitting to name it nothing other than Heritage Park because I believe that unity is based on our common heritage and our common ground here in this community of Hartland."
