Suspect Walks Away While Waiting for Police to Arrive at Hartland Walmart

After attempting to steal several articles of clothing from the Hartland Walmart, a woman was detained for one hour waiting for police to arriveΒ before walking outside and leaving,Β according to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.
Police say the suspect was seen taking several clothing items and putting them in her purse by a Walmart employee. The suspect then moved to the babyΒ department where sheΒ put infant clothing into her shopping cart, which, according to the report, the suspect paid for.
According to the report however,Β the suspect did not attempt to pay for the items hidden in her purse before leaving the store and she was then stopped and questioned by a Walmart employee.Β

Police say the suspect was thenΒ held for one hour waiting for police to arriveΒ but after the hour has passed,Β the store employeeΒ was unable to hold the suspectΒ any longer.Β
According to the report, the suspect was told she could stay andΒ wait for the police on her own.Β

The suspect stated she needed a cigarette and police say she went outside, walked away from the building and did not return.
