Here are the top three stories today in Lansing-East Lansing:
- The East Lansing City Council voted 2-2 to turn down a $1 million state grant that would have gone towards developing the Valley Court Park into a farmers market pavilion. The decision comes due in part to a requirement for the city to match the funding and potentially provide even more funding as well as comments from the public that expressed concern over losing green space. (Lansing State Journal)
- The Lansing Police Department has identified the victim of a fatal shooting that took place on Friday morning near the intersection of Dorchester Circle and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Officials formally identified Camrun Thornton, 23, who they found shot in the chest at the scene and who died after being taken to the hospital. Police are actively investigating the incident and ask anyone with information to contact the department at 517-483-4600. (WILX)
