Here are the top three stories in Lansing-East Lansing today:
- The Michigan State University (MSU) Federal Credit Union has unveiled a new sculpture at its headquarters in East Lansing. The sculpture, called "Us," was created by MSU undergraduate student Alex Vonhof and professor Jacquelynn Sullivan-Gould as a way to represent the unity of the area. Vonhof said of the sculpture's significance, "We wanted each piece of the sculpture, each of these three pieces, to support each other. They all lean on and support one another in the same way that MSU, the MSUFCU, and the community does with each other.” (WILX)
- Michigan State University's Board of Trustees will be deciding on Friday whether or not to increase room and board rates for first-year undergraduate students. The increase for the upcoming year, if approved, would be 6.95 percent. The board will also be considering rate increases for other students, such as those living in the university-owned 1855 Place and University Village Apartments. Officials cite the increase in prices for food, energy, and gasoline as the reason behind the potential rate increases. (Subscription: Lansing State Journal)
- Zeus' Coney Island in south Lansing officially closed its doors on Apr. 18 after serving the area for nearly 18 years. The location on South Pennsylvania Avenue has been listed for sale for a while, and an employee at the restaurant said that the owners are closing to enjoy retirement. A new Coney Island restaurant, Leo's Coney Island, is planning to open near the intersection of Jolly and Dunckel Roads in south Lansing in the coming months. (thegame730am.com)
