Here are the top three stories in Lansing-East Lansing today:
- Presidential candidate Marianne Williamson was invited by the Michigan State University (MSU) College Democrats to visit the MSU campus on Monday evening. The MSU College Democrats said in a statement regarding the invitation, "While we are not making an endorsement in this race, we believe that free speech and the freedom to share ideas is crucial to a healthy democracy. We want to invite debate and differing ideas to the table, and provide a space for voters to consider the vision and qualities they look for in leadership." (WILX)
- Lansing officials are considering possible revisions to the city's free parking program, which was started by Mayor Andy Schor's administration last year in an effort to encourage people to visit downtown. The program ended last month, and officials estimate that the city lost around $150,000 in parking revenue over the 10-month course of the program. In order to determine what future downtown paid and free parking might have, the mayor has proposed a parking study, which would cost an estimated $75,000, as part of the upcoming fiscal year's budget. (WKAR)
- The average gas gallon price fell 12.3 cents over the last week here in Lansing to a total of $3.63 per gallon. Compared to March, the price is 26 cents higher, but compared to this time last year, it's 22.2 cents lower. The average price was reached by GasBuddy by surveying 177 Lansing gas stations. (WILX)
