Ferndale Nonprofit Donates Laptop to Macomb Marine Corps League

Coordinating the volunteering efforts of Marine Corps League Macomb Detachment No. 154 has just been made that much easier by a donation from the Ferndale-based Motor City Free Geek.

A reuse, repair and recycler of technology products, Motor City Free Geek has donated a laptop computer to the Marine Corps League. This laptop will allow members of the Marine Corps League to better organize their volunteer efforts, which include rendering assistance to current and former Marines and to their widows and orphans, and working to perpetuate the history of the Marine Corps by observing the anniversaries of historical occasions of particular interest to Marines.

“The laptop will make it so much easier to conduct league business," said George Wittstock, Jr., adjutant of the Macomb Detachment #154, United States Marine Corps League, in a prepared statement.

Executive Director of Motor City Free Geek, Ken Grundberg, added that his organization is, "happy to be able to provide this equipment to the Marine Corps League and, by doing so, to assist them in their good works.”

Motor City Free Geek is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the repair and distribution of computers, cell phone, printers, camera’s etc, responsible recycling of electronic waste, and teaching of open source software. Refurbished equipment is made available without cost to needy individuals, churches, schools, non-profit agencies, and is offered for sale in thrift stores.

“By rebuilding, updating and cleaning 'retired' electronic devices that have been contributed by companies and individuals, we reduce the incredible volume of dangerous materials that would otherwise end up in landfills, while providing useful equipment to local non-profits and others in need,” said Grundberg.
