Spring Cleanups: Help Wanted at the Huron-Clinton Metroparks

Help seven Huron-Clinton Metroparks at their annual spring cleanups to be held on Saturday, April 21. Volunteers are needed at Lake St. Clair, Stony Creek, Wolcott Mill, Oakwoods, Indian Springs, Kensington and Lake Erie Metroparks.

Most cleanup events last a half-day, and a complimentary lunch is provided to those helpers who register in advance. The cleanups are a great opportunity for teens and adults who need community service hours and for Scout groups. Families, individuals and groups are encouraged to help clean up the parks! Park admission is free to volunteers.

Lake St. Clair Metropark near Mt. Clemens: “22nd Annual Metro Beach Earth Week Cleanup,” 9 a.m.-2 pm, with check-in from 9-9:30 a.m. at the park maintenance yard. Volunteers, adults and children at least 9 years of age, accompanied by parents, are needed to help clean up litter and materials in the park, such as fish line and hooks that are harmful to wildlife. Complimentary lunch will be served. Registration is needed by April 14; call 586-463-4332 to register.

Stony Creek Metropark near Rochester/Utica: “Earth Day Park Cleanup,” 9-11:30 a.m.; registration from 8-9 a.m. at Eastwood Beach. Volunteers can enjoy a complimentary lunch, plus a drawing for prizes. Preregistration required by April 15. Call 586-781-4242 or 586-781-9113 to register.

Wolcott Mill Metropark in Ray Township: Help clean up the grounds at the Historic Center or the Farm Center. At the Historic Center, the cleanup will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, which includes a complementary lunch. Preregistration needed. Individuals or groups can sign up to help by calling 586-749-5997. At the farm, the cleanup will be held from 9 a.m.-noon. Advance registration required by April 9. Volunteers can enjoy a complimentary lunch and a wagon ride. Call 586-752-5932 to help at the farm.

Indian Springs Metropark near White Lake: “Keep it Clean for Earth Day” events will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 21 and 22, from 2-4 p.m. Children and adults, ages 4 and up, are invited to help pick up litter throughout the park. Please call 248-625-7280 if interested in volunteering.   

Kensington Metropark near Milford/Brighton: “Keep Kensington Clean,” 9 a.m.-noon. Check in at the Farm Center Classroom. Complimentary lunch will be served after the cleanup. Registration is required by April 14. Please call 248-685-1561 to register.

Oakwoods Metropark near Flat Rock: “Earth Day Cleanup,” 10 a.m.=noon. Volunteers are needed to help keep Oakwoods beautiful. A complimentary lunch will be served. Preregistration required. Call 734-782-3956 to register.
