Man Arrested In Shooting Of Metro Detroit Businessman: Sheriff

The 32-year-old man was arrested at a Macomb County home, officials said.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI — A 32-year-old man was arrested over the weekend after he shot and injured a well-known Macomb County businessman at his home last week, according to the sheriff's office.

Officials said 61-year-old Eddie Jawad was shot multiple times at his home in the area of 24 Mile Road and Wellington Valley Drive in Macomb Township at 10:18 a.m. on Oct. 14. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released, officials said.

At 5 p.m. Sunday, officers raided a home on Rivard Avenue near 8 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue in Warren and arrested the 32-year-old man in connection with the shooting, officials said.

Officials did not release any further details on the arrest.

Before the shooting, officials said video caught the shooter in the area of 24 Mile Road and Wellington Valley Drive at roughly 8:22 a.m. Tuesday. The man walked through a neighbor's yard and hid between two parked cars in Jawad's driveway, officials said.

He then emerged from the hiding spot roughly 30 minutes later and fired shots at an SUV Jawad was driving, officials said.

"Someone was lying in wait. You could see him between the two cars, coming out with a gun and shooting immediately," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido. "This was in front of the man’s house, where his family is, where his wife is. This is ridiculous."

Officials were still investigating the shooting and asked anyone with information to call the Macomb County Sheriff's Office's Detective Bureau at 586-307-9358.
