Man Arrested on Drunken-Driving Charge in Northville Township

Driver registers a .13 percent blood alcohol content.

While patrolling the area of westbound 6 Mile Road near Haggerty Road in the early hours of March 18, police stopped a vehicle weaving in its lane, according to a police report.

The driver of the vehicle told police he swerved because he was trying to eat a hamburger while driving, the report indicated. While speaking to the driver, the officer detected the smell of alcohol, the report indicated.

The man told police he had been drinking earlier in the day, on March 17, but hadn’t had anything in the previous three hours, according to the report.

The officer administered a field sobriety test, and the driver struggled through some of the tests, according to the report, so the officer administered a preliminary breath test, where the man registered a .13 percent blood alcohol content. Michigan's legal limit is .08 percent.

Police arrested the man on charges of operating while intoxicated. He faces a March 27 court date at 35th District Court in Plymouth. Police took and destroyed the man’s driver’s license.
