Discard Household Hazardous Waste at Upcoming Events

Spring cleaning season means it's time to empty out cluttered closets, garages and basements from crusting paint cans, insecticides, televisions, batteries and other household hazardous waste.

Novi residents can safely discard or recycle hazardous items at all "Household Hazardous Waste" events organized by the Resource Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southern Oakland County (RRRASOC).

Upcoming "Household Hazardous Waste" events are:

April 13 

10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Wixom Department of Public Works - 2041 Charms Road in Wixom

April 20 

9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

RRRASOC Materials Recovery Facility - 20000 West Eight Mile Road in Southfield

May 11

9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Oakland Community College Orchard Ridge Campus - 27055 Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills

What is household hazardous waste?

Household Hazardous Waste includes items like cleaners, paints, herbicides, insecticides and solvents that exhibit the characteristics of regulated hazardous waste, according to the RRRASOC. Regulated hazardous waste means items that are flammable, combustible, corrosive, reactive, or toxic and would be harmful to the environment if thrown into a regular landfill.

Residents that cannot attend the scheduled events, or need to get rid of waste in between events, can contact RRRASOC or Environmental Recycling Group (ERG) at 743-437-9650 to make an appointment to take the material to ERG's facility in Livonia.
