Filing Deadline to Run for Novi School Board is Tuesday

Two seats on the Novi Board of Education will be up for election on Nov. 6.

The positions are for a six-year term beginning this January and ending in December 2018.

The seats are currently held by Board Vice President Dennis O'Connor and President Bruce Bagdady. O'Connor plans to run for re-election, but Bagdady announced at the last Board meeting that he will not. He said that now that he has grandchildren and his youngest is in college, he would like to spend more time with family.

Potential candidates for the election must file a School Board Candidate – Affidavit of Identity and Receipt Form with the Oakland County Election Division, 1200 N. Telegraph, Pontiac, MI 48341 no later than Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 4 p.m.

When filing the Affidavit of Identity and Receipt Form, a minimum of 40 signatures and a maximum of 100 signatures are required from qualified and registered electors of the Novi Community School District. Candidates have the choice of paying a nonrefundable $100 filing fee in lieu of filing nominating petitions. Once filed, the deadline for withdrawal is Friday, Aug. 17 at 4 p.m.

The Novi Board of Education represents the views of the community on issues affecting education. Board members work together to establish policy, approve educational goals and curriculum changes, and work with the superintendent, administration, and staff to set direction for the district. Board meetings are held twice monthly, typically the first and third Thursday of the month, in the on Taft Road.
